Donald Hall has written fifteen books of poetry, eleven books for children, two memoirs, two biographies, two volumes of short stories, and three plays. He has been the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, and the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, among several other awards. He served as the Poet Laureate of New Hampshire from 1984-1989, and as the Poet Laureate of the United States from 2006-2007.
Hall guest-edited the Summer/Fall 1982
issue and the Fall 2001
issue of Ploughshares. Of the 2001 issue, he says, “This final editing project pleases me greatly, as I hope it will please others. I am delighted that these writers – friends and strangers, some of whom are five decades younger than I am – have allowed me to print their brilliant work.”
