Round-Up: Amazon, Bill O’Reilly, and the Wheel of Time

From a new Amazon Books location to Sony’s Wheel of Time adaptation, here’s the latest literary news:

• Amazon continues its rollout of brick-and-mortar bookstore locations with a new store in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. The store, which opened on April 18 in a 4,200 square foot space, offers books and the company’s electronic devices alike. Amazon Prime members are eligible to receive discounted prices. This store is the sixth Amazon Books location so far, and the company reportedly plans to open as many as four hundred similar stores in the coming years.  
• Henry Holt, an imprint of Macmillan, is standing by its author Bill O’Reilly amidst talk of his various sexual harassment settlements and recent termination from Fox News. O’Reilly’s work with Henry Holt includes the Killing series, which has sold over fifteen million copies globally. When asked about the status of an upcoming O’Reilly title, a spokesperson for Holt said, “Our plans have not changed.”
• Sony will produce a television adaptation of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. Wheel of Time, the fourteen-volume fantasy series published from 1990 to 2013, has sold over eighty million copies worldwide and become a cornerstone of the genre. Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, commented: “Legal issues have been resolved. . . . I couldn’t be more pleased.” Rumors of a television adaptation for Wheel of Time have circulated since 2000.
