We are excited to announce the publication of our Spring 2013 issue, which features prose and poetry compiled by our Guest Editor Major Jackson. This issue includes the work of several distinguished writers and newcomers, featuring poetry by writers like Mark Doty, Martin Espada, Tony Hoagland, Laura Kasischke, Sharon Olds, Carl Phillips, and Tracy K. Smith, and fiction by writers like Emily Bernard and Sherri Phillips.
We’re thrilled by the quality of work we have received and excited to share it with you. The Spring issue is in the mail to our subscribers and also available on Kindle and Nook.
Here is a selection of pieces from the issue.
Major Jackson writes about the “poetry-is-dead” crowd and his hobby of collecting antique radios in his Introduction.
The poetry includes “The Complex Sentence” by Tony Hoagland, about the aftermath of a rape, and “Masticated Light” by Jamaal May, about almost losing his vision.
The prose includes the short story “Andorra” about the intricacies of simultaneously managing motherhood and an affair, and the Plan B essay, “The Great Dream,” by Floyd Skloot, about his family’s dreams of alternate lives.
We hope you love the issue as much as we do! Looking forward, our Fall 2013 issue will be edited by Peter Ho Davies. Our Winter 2013-2014 issue, however, will be gathered by Ploughshares staff, and will include the accomplished pieces that may not have been right for the guest-edited issues, some of our own favorites, and the winners of the 2013 Emerging Writer’s Contest.
